Photographing weddings is one of the ultimate in happy experiences for me. I absolutely love watching two people come together to become one in the holy union of marriage. I LOVE being married, and am thrilled when others join the club. Knowing that I get the opportunity to record an heirloom that will be passed through the generations is kind of a HUGE deal. The only thing better than recording weddings at all, is recording one for someone near and dear to my heart. That is the case with Rae and BJ.
Rae was the first person I met (outside my family) when I moved to Fredericksburg. I badly needed my eyebrows (caterpillars) to be shaved off my face, and I walked into the local Hair Cuttery. You know when you meet someone who you just hit it off with immediately... well, that was Rae. Within ten minutes, I was suggesting that she and I collaborate our talents, and that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Fast forward a year to when I met BJ (at their engagement session) I thought "here is a man that deserves this amazing young woman, and loves her like she deserves." BJ has big, rough, working man's hands, that are tender and gentle with his beautiful wife. When he looks at her, all I see is how much he cherishes her, and it melts the heart. She returns his gaze with a blushing smile that only says back silently, "Yes, I love you that much, too!" I knew their wedding would be one that combined nature with the true romance that just surrounds the two of them whenever they are together.
Rae and BJ live on a lovely piece of land by the river, and to prepare for their special day, they cleared a pathway down through the woods winding down to a small but beautiful part of the river. They used the cut trees from the endeavor to make the centerpieces for their reception tables, and a huge cross that showed their devotion to God and the appreciation for the beauty He gave them to share celebrate their wedding day. The amount of work that went into making the day perfect is huge, and most of it was done by BJ, his amazingly talented brother Cory, Rae, and her sweet sister Sarah. I was floored by all the detailed work from the heart that went into making their special days truly one of the most beautiful weddings I've ever covered.
